Clean-up Day

Events

Today, the Monaco Red Cross, in collaboration with the Société Monégasque d’Assainissement, organized its first cleanup session of the Marine Educative Area (MEA) of the AMPN and Quai Antoine 1er.

This waste collection was carried out by young volunteers from the Red Cross, making it a fantastic initiative! The younger generation is increasingly taking action and becoming aware of the waste management issue – keep it up!

With great pleasure, we responded to their invitation, and we hope to continue these sessions.

For your information: 400 million tons of waste are produced annually, with half of it representing our daily consumption.

During this cleanup, we primarily collected cigarette butts. Due to their small size, these tiny pieces of waste infiltrate everywhere, and one cigarette butt contaminates 500 liters of water. The waste collection was organized with pairs, each equipped with a bag: a yellow one for general packaging and a white one for household waste and cigarette butts, for example. These bags will be processed differently; the white bags go to Monaco's energy recovery plant, and the yellow bags go to the sorting center in Cannes.

Initiatives like these are becoming more visible and are always encouraged.
