“Tara Pacific: an expedition to the heart of the coral”

The scientific schooner Tara left its home port of Lorient on May 28, 2016 to crisscross the Pacific Ocean for nearly 100,000 km for two and a half years.

With an interdisciplinary scientific team on board coordinated by the Monaco Scientific Center (CSM) and the CNRS, the objective was to examine the biodiversity of coral reefs and their evolution in the face of climate change and anthropogenic pressures in an unprecedented way.

After giving a very short reminder on corals, Doctor Stéphanie Reynaud-Berthier presented the scientific subjects studied during this expedition, and more particularly the use of coral colonies to go back in time.

In addition to the scientific aspect, a real “invitation to travel” which won over the entire audience.
