Management plan of Monaco's MPA

Events

After two years of collaboration with the Prince's Government, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, the scientific council of the AMPN, and numerous actors from civil society, the management plan for the Larvotto and Spélugues Marine Protected Areas was presented and approved on Monday, October 4, during the final Steering Committee meeting that brought together all stakeholders.

Since 2019, the study, conducted in partnership with the engineering firm BRL Ingénierie, unfolded in three phases, allowing for the assessment of various challenges, the identification of intervention strategies, and the development of the operational plan (with a total of 34 major actions, which can be broken down into numerous sub-actions).

Following the Steering Committee meeting, the annual meeting of the National Monitoring Committee (CNS) for MPAs took place on Wednesday, October 6. The CNS serves as the central governance body for Marine Protected Areas. Its missions include validating the five-year management plan and action program, along with the associated budget, and ensuring the effective management of MPAs and the fulfillment of the missions entrusted to the manager (the AMPN).

In this context, the AMPN first presented to the entire Committee the actions carried out in 2020 and 2021, along with their budget. Furthermore, the management plan was officially endorsed by the CNS. Its implementation will begin in 2022.
