Monitoring of Mediterranean Noble pen shells thorugh citizen science

Events

Since 2016, an episode of mass mortality has affected the Mediterranean Noble pen shell, a protected species listed as critically endangered according to the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) red list.

The populations of Noble pen shelss of Monaco were affected in 2018. Monitoring is regularly carried out to try to find living mother-of-pearl shells along the coasts.

Today, around twenty divers from the AMPN and the Monaco Underwater Exploration Club (CESMM) joined forces as part of a participatory science operation to explore the central part of the MPA of Larvotto.

THANK YOU again to all the participants and to the CESMM, who contributed to the success of this operation.
