Posidonia presentation at École de Fontvieille in CM1 class : Intervention n°2

Events

On Monday, January 29th, and Friday, February 2nd, the AMPN intervened in the 8ème A and B at the Fontvieille school.

This intervention marked the second session on the theme of Posidonia. After summarizing the concepts covered in the initial intervention, students were made aware of various pressures exerted by humans on seagrass beds. Boat anchoring, pollution, and urbanization are among the factors threatening the survival of this crucial species. Fortunately, solutions exist.

Students were informed about the experimental replanting protocol developed by Dr. Heike Molenaar and implemented in the Larvotto Marine Protected Area. They then attempted to replicate this protocol using a model representing the impact of mooring on seagrass beds.

The students quickly grasped the importance of these issues and demonstrated great efficiency in replanting Posidonia. They clearly understood the crucial message: before replanting, it is essential to stop the source of disturbance!

A BIG THANK YOU to the teachers and the school administration of Fontvieille for inviting us for these interventions and for their commitment.
