Marine Educative Area "Generation 3": Inauguration of the panels

Marine Educative Area

The culmination of the students' action for the sea from the 7ème A class at the Fontvieille School took place today.

The awareness panels aimed at presenting the marine educational area and its biodiversity were inaugurated in the presence of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco.

Throughout the school year, the students, guided by Dr. Heike Molenaar and their teacher, Mrs. Vanessa Albert, deliberated on the messages to convey. Working sessions gradually brought forth the themes of the panels, the required information, and their visual presentation.

Six panels are now installed along the marine educational area, from the base of the Oceanographic Museum, through the solarium, and up to the upper part of the maritime station. At each end of the MEA, there is a general presentation panel. The others cover marine animal and plant species, the lifespan of waste, actions to be taken, and fish with a focus on recommended catch sizes and fishing periods.

All translated into English, they are equipped with a QR Code linking to an Instagram page featuring the film presenting the AME and additional information about the various species.

We thank H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince for His continuous support in the framework of this awareness program, as well as for His great benevolence towards the children who had the immense pride of presenting the results of their work.

Our thanks also go to the Monaco Government and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, which facilitated the realization of the project.

We also want to express our gratitude to Mrs. Véronique Caselles, Director of the Fontvieille School, and all those who actively contributed to this project, including the Urban Planning Department, Mr. Cedric Renault, the Monegasque Federation of Sport Fishing, Dr. Alexis Pey (Thalassa Marine Research & Environmental Awareness), and the numerous amateur or professional photographers who generously provided their photos.

Congratulations once again to the children, true Ambassadors of Environmental Protection.
