Marine Educative Area "Generation 4": Inspecting underwater trap and waste

Marine Educative Area

Today, after the workshop conducted by the Direction de l’Environnement, the 7ème A students from Fontvieille School retrieved their underwater trap after 5 months of immersion.

Paper waste such as tissues and cardboard had completely disappeared. Metal waste had reached an advanced stage of degradation with material loss and the presence of rust. As for plastic waste, they were colonized by various algae, triangular tube worms, rough ascidians (rough gelatinous masses), colonial ascidians, bryozoans (areas with geometric shapes), and a hermit crab that gently tickled the children's hands

Even though they discovered that any submerged material is quickly colonized, the children understood well that waste related to human activities (especially plastic) has no place underwater! Looking forward to the next survey!
