Marine Educative Area "Generation 4": Introducing solarium working site

Marine Educative Area

Today, the students of 7ème A at Fontvieille School met with Mr. Stéphane Melan, Chief of Road and Signage Section at the Direction de l’Aménagement Urbain.

Due to redevelopment work taking place on the solarium at the heart of the Marine Educatve Area (MEA), the children had requested this meeting to learn about the objective of the redevelopment and the planned environmental preventive actions.

Through 3D modeling, they were given a "sneak peek" of the future solarium. This area will be landscaped and designed to better accommodate the public while respecting the environment as much as possible (availability of appropriate bins, non-smoking area, etc.).

The children were reassured to know that during the construction work, preventive actions would be implemented to avoid disrupting the marine and terrestrial environment:

  • Presence of retention bins to collect construction waste;
  • Use of a machine to clean tools, avoiding the dispersion of produced dust;
  • Work stoppage if a certain wave height threshold is reached to ensure the safety of workers and prevent the loss of tools and objects at sea;
  • Presence of three types of anti-noise awareness panels: "L’odyssée d’un mégot jeté dans la rue," "20 000 lieues sous la Mer Méditerranée" (marine biodiversity), and "Sortie en mer plastique."

A site visit is planned with the children to monitor the progress of the work and ensure that the preservation of their AME is respected.

A big THANK YOU to the Direction de l’Aménagement Urbain for their availability and interest in the children's work!
