Marine Educative Area "Generation 4": Solarium discovery

Today, the students of the 7^ème A class of the Fontvieille School were able to visit the Solarium newly fitted out by the Direction de l’Aménagement Urbain. The students appreciated these new arrangements: wooden cladding, benches, numerous bins and vegetation, all of which made the place friendly and more attractive. As managers of the Marine Educative Area, the children's various observations will be transmitted to the Direction de l’Aménagement Urbain.

We take this opportunity to warmly thank the DAU and more particularly Mr. Stéphane Melan, Chef de Section Voirie et Signalisation, for devoting time throughout the year to Generation 4 students.

The fishing basket was raised for the last time by the students. In total, out of 24 types of waste, 19 are still present and some are in the process of deterioration (metal can, piece of fabric, bottle cap, etc.). The first waste to disappear in less than a month was food waste (orange peel and apple core), followed by paper waste between 3 and 6 months (cardboard, paper, tissue, cotton, etc.) . The most resistant, unsurprisingly, are metal, glass and plastic waste.

The students were amazed to know that this last waste disappeared after several hundred years. The message was clear to them regarding the fate of waste in the sea, even if some were already sensitive to this global problem!
