Marine Educative Area "Generation 6": Artificial reefs

This morning, the students of the 7^ème A at École Saint-Charles, responsible for the EMEA for the academic year 2023-2024, participated in a workshop aimed at familiarizing them with artificial reefs.

As a preliminary step, a presentation helped them understand that an artificial reef is a structure intentionally submerged by humans to influence marine resources, emphasizing that simply throwing waste into the sea is not enough to create an artificial reef.

They explored the role played by different types of artificial reefs and followed the historical evolution of these structures, from simple assembled concrete blocks to reefs created from complex digital models and printed using 3D printers, with each shelter designed based on targeted species.

The students then applied their knowledge by attempting to construct a complex artificial reef using simple Lego bricks, taking into account the needs of different targeted species.

Once again, a fun and educational morning was spent with the AME students.
