Citizen sciences - FAST Protocol

Marine Protected Areas

Developing user awareness through citizen science is one of the objectives of the Monaco Marine Protected Areas Management Plan.

On July 16 and 30, 2022, divers from the AMPN and the Club d'Explorations Sous-Marines de Monaco (CESMM) applied the FAST (Fish Assemblage Sampling Technique) protocol in the Marine Protected Areas of Larvotto and the drop-off of the Spelugues.

This protocol is a sampling technique for fish populations based on a specific list made up of around thirty species.

These operations brought together 21 divers to recover data which will be used by scientists. A prior briefing provided divers with identification tips and information on the behavior of certain species. A BIG THANK YOU to the volunteer divers and the CESMM for its support!
