Cleaning of the marine protected area - 2022

Marine Protected Areas

Today the land and underwater cleaning of the Larvotto Marine Protected Area took place thanks to the involvement of 27 divers and 6 land cleaners, all volunteers from the AMPN and the Club d’Exploration Sous-Marine de Monaco (CESMM).

In total, 75kg of marine waste was collected, such as soda cans, plastic bottles, rope, etc. Some of this waste arrived at sea because of waves and gales, or because of incivility that could be avoided.

On the beach, 3kg of waste was collected, consisting mainly of cigarette butts even though the beach is non-smoking. A lot of waste could be avoided by adopting more responsible behavior!

A big THANK YOU to the entire team of divers from the Club d’Exploration Sous-Marine de Monaco for their ongoing involvement.

THANK YOU also to the Société Monégasque d’Assainissement for providing recovery bins and a scale which made it possible to characterize the waste. And thank you for the presence of the jet-ski which helped recover the bags brought back by the divers.
