Dusky grouper and brown meagre counting operation with the Groupe d’Etude du Mérou

Marine Protected Areas

The AMPN participated in the counting operation organized by the Grouper Study Group (G.E.M.) in collaboration with the Department of the Environment.

The objectives are to estimate dusky grouper (Epinephelus marginatus) and brown meagre (Sciaena umbra) populations on the French coast and to monitor their evolution on the basis of a precise protocol and with the help of scuba divers and of freedivers. These counts are made every three years.

The counting took place over five days in the waters of the Principality to update the latest data from 2012 and continued for two days in the town of Cap d'Ail where it took place for the first time.

The AMPN made its premises available to divers and participated in counting in the town of Cap d'Ail. Our support was greatly appreciated.
