Cleaning of the marine protected area - 2023

Marine Protected Areas

On Saturday October 7, the land and underwater cleaning of the Larvotto Marine Protected Area took place.

The operation, carried out in collaboration with the the Club d’Exploration Sous-Marine de Monaco (CESMM) and the Société Monégasque d’Assainissement (SMA), required the involvement of 34 divers and 18 cleaners on land.

In total, 310 kilos of waste were collected. This waste was also sorted and categorized. Among the waste collected on the beach, cigarette butts, although the beach is non-smoking and the SMA cleans it daily, are unfortunately among the big winners: 200 grams of butts recovered. A sad record...

Waste collected at sea is mainly represented by metal, PVC and plastic waste, as well as ropes and even a beach shower bar. As every year, the results of the cleaning operation invite us to recall the need for COLLECTIVE awareness to limit the impacts of pollution on the environment.

A big THANK YOU to the Club d’Exploration Sous-Marine de Monaco and the Société Monégasque d’Assainissement for their support. THANK YOU also to all the volunteers, divers and non-divers, on whom this cleaning operation is based. Special thanks to the divers of the Compagnie des Carabiniers du Prince and the agents of the Division de Police Maritime et Aéroportuaire who ensured the security of the body of water.
