Monitoring benthic colonization of 3D reefs - 2022

Marine Protected Areas

Since their immersion in 2017, the 3D reefs of the Larvotto Marine Protected Area have been the subject of scientific monitoring, including that of their colonization by benthic organisms.

The diversity of these organisms promotes the reproduction, recruitment and feeding of mobile species and contributes to the proper functioning of reefs.

This monitoring, carried out by Thalassa Marine research & Environmental awareness and Stéphane Jamme (Aquanaute expertise) makes it possible to estimate for each reef the specific diversity and the recovery rate of the different benthic species according to the zones of the reef.

The study of this ecological compartment, in addition to other monitoring, provides a global image of the state of the food web at the 3D reef level.
