Monitoring posidonia meadow

Marine Protected Areas

The AMP management plan consists of 6 major objectives, the implementation of which is distributed in a co-management process between the AMPN, as the manager of the MPAs, and the State Services (particularly the Direction de l’Environnement).

One of these objectives concerns natural heritage, including the monitoring of species diversity. Studies conducted by the AMPN at the approach of the warm season began last week, focusing on the posidonia meadow under the direction of Dr. Heike Molenaar, an expert in this field, and in collaboration with the teams from Thalassa Marine Research & Environmental Awareness and Aquanaute Expertise.

This includes counting orthotropic rhizomes (developing vertically) and plagiotropic rhizomes (developing laterally), measuring potential uprooting, observing sediments, etc.

The data currently being collected once again attest to the good health of the meadow.
